Thanks all. Decided on a puzzle roll and adult puzzle. Figured he can take it home and also use it while inside.

BASIC does not recognize line number 0. 😁

Yes, you could start an array from 0. But a bullet point list? Hardly.

Also, thanks to your off-by-one errors, unknown developer.

Is there still any use case for desktop computers? In my distant youth I played with extension cards and other add-ons but since a laptop became my main pc (with external monitor, keyboard and mouse), the desktop has remained switched off and lonely for many months now. Maybe I should do something with it.

I couldn't really imagine having a laptop that was fast enough to compete with my desktop setup that was still light enough I'd want to carry it.  If your needs are met by a laptop however, then I can't see why you'd want/need a desktop.

Typing on a laptop keyboard would rapidly mean crippled wrists, so first there's the external keyboard.

Then, I'd have to make sure the laptop is powerful enough to drive 3 extra external monitors.

And find one with a graphics card powerful enough (and with enough memory!) to run large AI models. And of course make sure it's got a cooling solution that is adequate for these.

By the time all of this is sorted, a desktop makes more sense. Not to mention the easy repairability - the fan on my air cooler died over the weekend, but with a spare case fan and a couple of cable ties, I was back up and running in 5 minutes.

The only advantage I see of a laptop is its portability, which I almost never need. And if I do, well, I have a laptop as well :)

There is a water pumping station thing being built on May road in Mt Roskill.

Is there any chance this will positively impact our water pressure?

I am elderly and retired from everything except life. I am not a gamer. I have always possessed a certain amount of technical curiosity that has propelled me through various iterations of computer technology but as a writer I only really needed word processing to keep me going. I am still interested in new developments, though I find it harder and harder to understand them, but I only really need a computer for Geekzone, the news, and streaming. My days of experimentation are past and I now just want things to work. My laptops fill that niche nicely.

Edit: I just noticed the latest posts here and feel I should add that as an official old person, I have never got used to phones and I have one only for emergencies. A laptop is as far as I am prepared to go.

Any time there is anything to do, I turn off my phone and use a computer. Small screens are the devil's work.

I guess it depends on where you live.

Totally agree. I do the bare minimum on my phone.

IME laptops get really noisy when under load, cant have much storage added, CPUs and GPUs are typically a lot weaker despite having intentionally confusing similar naming.

You then have a small typically crappy LCD display sitting there wasting one of the GPUs outputs idle except when you take it with you. Limited USB ports meaning you need to screw around with hubs and docks for things, All that for what is normally a much higher price except for at the moment with ram and flash prices doing stupid things.

Laptop is for taking, desktop is for at home.

Looks like it's a wastewater project.
