Saw Iron Skies - recommended, its just what it says on the box, Moon Nazis! Pour a beer, turn off brain and enjoy! The kids didn't believe me that it was a comedy until the deranged Moon Nazi blew a huge chunk out of the moon so he could aim at the earth which was under the horizon...

Skyfall - got to it eventually. I enjoyed it, a good entry in the Bond canon. A few bits niggled - the casual shrugging off of the death of the girl from the casino (why couldn't he have exploded into action just before she was shot instead of just after?).

I agree with you on Skyfall, I think her death was part of the "is Bond past it or up to the challenge?" theme which I think was well overplayed. What a wast of scotch? What a waste of a French underwear model!

Javier was well into the higher ranks of bond villains mind.

Didn't anybody tell you I was a hacker?

Jack Reacher 7/10

Enjoyed it. Don't care that Tom Cruise isn't 6'4" great actor and I find it boring watching some man mountain smashing people.

Jai Courtney was a scene pincher though. He was great.

I couldn't' understand what all the fuss with inception was. Seemed very ordinary to me, I gave it a 6 at best.

I had hoped to see it in 3D HFR, but the friends we saw it with didn't want to, so I'm hoping to see it again here in PN in HFR just to compare.

On what basis did you friends not want to see the HFR version? The only reason would be to see it in 4K projection since the workflow for theatres isn't ready for 4K HFR so the HFR screenings were in 2K.

See it in 24fps is only seeing half the the movie :-)

I think it was the 3D aspect rather than the HFR that bothered them. I'd heard from some people that the HFR version looks unreal, so I'd already decided that if I enjoyed the story I'd see it twice, to compare the different versions, so I was happy to see it in 2D in NP, knowing that I could see it in 3D HFR in PN.

So if I see it twice (once in 24fps, and once in 48 fps), does that meean I've seen one and a half of the movie? ;) Or twice at 36fps? Or just once at RHFR (really high frame rate - 72fps)?

Watched Bernie with Jack Black and Shirley McLain last night. Was about a all round nice small town guy who kills someone but the townsfolk simply won't really believe it. Bsed on a true story. 7 outta 10 for me.

Also watched The Hobbit the other day as well and give it about a 8...looked nice but not the same epic feeling you got from TLotR movies. I will however watch the others and more than likely watch this again too.

Skyfall good but not what I would call the best Bond movie 7 out of 10.

Watched Trouble with the Curve on iTunes. Not bad story about an old(er) grumpy baseball scout who needs to come in agreement with his daughter. I give it 6.5/10.

The Hobbit, High Frame Rate 3D

I had to go and see it for many reasons including that the book was one of my faithful companions as a child.

My wife sometimes suffers from vertigo at times so I felt a bit guilty taking her, but I hoped that the high frame rate would make it easier. She survived and didn't complain although some of the fast action was a bit much for her. I have to say that the detail was so phenomenal that I defy anyone to see everything anyway. This really makes the old cast of thousands movies look old school.

Did I like it? Yes, absolutely, the realism was great, I was half expecting spray to come out of the screen as you get at Disneyworld theatres. The 3D was really good and not overdone. I was thinking that whilst this is very new and there is a debate about what our eyes can actually see when it comes to high frame rate, the bottom line was that it was excellent. Also thought it seemed a lot like the Viewmaster I had as a kid, so didn't feel like a huge leap forward, but definitely enough to get me to go in.

One must also remember that The Hobbit was a kids story and some might feel deflated after the LOTR trilogy. Personally I thought it was great, great that it was filmed and so much of the work was done in New Zealand. We should feel very proud of all of those Kiwis involved in making this a success. Hopefully it will bring more tourists into the country and encourage more Kiwis into the film industry, into animation and computer arts as well as music.

Watched Monty Pythons Life Of Brian at Black Barn open air cinema (http://www.blackbarn.com/events.asp).

Although I am a Python fan (indeed, I have often thought myself to be Pythonesque), LoB is my least favourite Python film, so overall I give the film a 6/10.

The next day, we watched Holy Grail which I think is truly one of the worlds great films, and even after time, still rates 8.5 out of 10.

How many movies currently already recorded are in 4K or 8K compatible formats, or is it a case of having to only get new movies done that way using special cameras? I am considering a 4K Projector this year.
