networkn: How many movies currently already recorded are in 4K or 8K compatible formats, or is it a case of having to only get new movies done that way using special cameras? I am considering a 4K Projector this year.

This totally and utterly deserves its own thread. Its a good topic, and sure to generate a decent bit of discussion that will surely clutter up an "I watched xyz movie" thread.

Kopkiwi: Jack Reacher 7/10

Enjoyed it. Don't care that Tom Cruise isn't 6'4" great actor and I find it boring watching some man mountain smashing people.

Jai Courtney was a scene pincher though. He was great.

Thoroughly enjoyed Jack Reacher, although having read all the books Cruise did seem a bit wrong! Good fun though and very entertaining. Agree with 7 out of 10.

Watched John carter recently, was one of the better movies I've seen lately..

Not quite sure why it bombed in the box office.. Perhaps because the trailer was crap?? Disappointing really as a second one would of been quite good.

This might sound silly but I think the title had something to do with it, 'John Carter' just doesn't raise the interest like 'Flash Gordon' or 'Battle Beyond the Stars', know what I mean? 'John Carter' sounds too much like 'Jerry McGuire'.

Didn't anybody tell you I was a hacker?

Les Miserables was fantastic. Everyone was brilliant, except for Russell Crowe, who has the emotional and vocal range of a spoon.

The Hobbit - 2D: 8/10. I have now been twice to see this. Enjoyed it a lot. I thought the effects, costumes etc were excellent. For me the only let down was that some parts felt like a repeat of watching LOTR, a bit of been there seen that let’s move on now.

Rise of the Guardians - 2D: 7/10. I thought this was very good. Took the kids along and it was very scary in parts and is definitely a PG. They still enjoyed it as well.

Life of Pi - 3D: 9/10. Excellent movie. Amazing effects and the story is very well told. Still thinking about it today and highly recommend this one. I am pleased I did not take the kids, it is rated PG with some quite full on scenes with the animals fighting. While I recommend seeing this one in 3D due to the effects I give a point off for 3D in general. Still not a fan of 3D in relation to wearing glasses and the way it still does not feel as comfortable viewing movies in this format as I would like.

The Giant Mechanical Man. An interesting short tale (1:30h) about people trying to find a direction in life - career, partnership, etc. I gave it 7.10.

Les Miserables - 9.5/10

Even though there are 49 weeks left in 2013, and plenty of good films on the horizon, I'm verging on calling this my favourite film of the year. I love the musical, and the film adaptation is a tremendous effort. Singing all round is really good (even Russell Crowe isn't that bad), but the cinematography really stands out. The opening scenes in particular resonated for me - they were filmed in the Chatham Dockyards in Kent, which I visited purely by chance when I was visiting family in the UK last year. Of course, when I was there, there weren't hundreds of men hauling on ropes pulling in a galleon, there was just a couple of warships and a decomissioned submarine. It was pretty cool to see the stepped dock standing in for 19th century France...

Watched a couple yesterday, first was the pile of rubbish Resident Evil, what a load of dog poos.

The second was way better, Hotel Rwanda, very sad and shocking. How humans can be like that. Had a nice ending though I guess. Still sad.

Kid was staying with grandparents, we watched two movies on iTunes last night:

To Rome with Love. Typical Woody Allen crazy stuff. Not sure why I insist watching his movies anymore. We gave it 5/10.

Taken 3. As a sequel, not bad. As an action movie, not bad. But as a Luc Besson movie, it could be a lot better. I gave it 6/10.
