neb: Sometimes a BDFL is better than having consensus.

If only the country had a figure that would hold power when needed. Something like the Primary Minister or something similar...

They’ll need to have a conversation about moving forward to consult affected groups before they can model likely outcomes as they impact all of the stakeholders.

Well as long as they leverage the synergy of the cloud they should be fine.

Is that a bit like scheduling a meeting about a meeting to discuss and announcement about an announcement?

No it's so the affected stakeholders can understand the difference between an international travel document and a domestic one.

I guess there's at least one benefit(?) to our gonzo-format Covid pass, it's so useless as a general-purpose vaccination proof that even the scammers aren't bothering with it....

I need some timber to re-roof my garage but the Bunnings people pretty much laughed at me when I tried to buy some yesterday. There ain't none, they said.

But from my office I can see a literal shipload of logs waiting to go off shore.

How the hell did this ballsup of a situation happen?

Yup - there are three trains a day that go past home, absolutely chokka with logs, not to mention the stream of trucks making their way back and forth over the hill taking logs into Wellington. But Jan / Feb for the fence posts I wanted from RD1 yesterday...

It's a natural consequence of the price obtainable overseas being vastly higher than the price obtainable in NZ. And there's no obvious solution, even if the gummint were to set local-sales quotas for suppliers, so reserve a certain percentage for NZ use, apart from forcing the Crown Law Office to run 24/7 shifts to deal with the fallout the most it'd do is cause back-channel exports by middlemen who bought locally and then exported for profit themselves.

Edited to add: More for the DIY forums, but there's bound to be plenty of people on here who have small stocks of assorted timber lying around from builds and projects, maybe we could set up a trade & exchange.

You can buy it back once it’s been transformed into something in China.

Typically the transformation is from untreated pine to genuine African mahogany.
