I don't wish to boast, but simple is as simple does.

Oh, hang on...

Phone a major Contractor this morning @ 0830hrs to say the Student had vacated an address in the Street and left one of their (The Contractor) signs on the berm leaning up against the fence.

Was "thanked" for calling, and someone would be around to collect it.

Still there about 12 hours after calling.

I wonder when or if they will collect it?

A Road Works Sign and Upright are obviously worth less than I thought!

Won't bother "wasting my time" calling again. (They are currently working 4 blocks away on a major project)

Is the upright or support a 2x4? You can get good money for those at the moment.

I think I hate the silent ones worse than the buzzy variety.

Not me, the buzzing drives me insane.

My wife has learned not to bother opening windows in summer because of my OCD attitude to flies etc!

I actually pack fly spray when I go to hotels.

I've been told that, statistically, you'll be right 85% of the time if you say "tomorrow will be the same as today" (for broad interpretations of "same", I guess). This may be one of the 86% of stats that are made up on the spot, however.  But, if true, weather predictors need to be a lot better than a coin toss to have any value whatsoever.

My subjective belief is that forecasts have got a lot better in the last year or so, especially the longer range ones. I prefer Windy.com because it has a nicer UI, and lots of stuff that MetVUW & Metservice don't have (e.g. cloud height, wind direction, webcams). Having said that, they all agree with each other pretty well most of the time. When they don't it's been Windy that's been correct more often than not.

I don't think the Met Service is too bad. One go to for me to get an idea of what weather is on it's way is the 3 day rain prediction charts.

I use weather forecasts every day for work and these are provided by the Met Service and they are usually very accurate.

I like Windy too. With Windy you can choose from one of three computer based weather models (ECMWF, GFS or ICON). Sometimes none of these agree.

Yellow Pages.

Google search for an electrician in my small town finds one, including a link to yellowpages.co.nz. Hmmm... I'll use Yellow Pages to see if there's any other electricians locally. The result is a whole bunch who apparently service all of NZ from Northland to Stewart Island, but NOT the one I already found via Google.

Literally one job, and Yellow Pages fails at it dismally.

Yellow Pages is something that would belong in the 'What's irrelevant in 2021 2005" thread if there was one.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

I still remember the last time I used a physical phone book. It was because the White Pages site had 'helpfully' decided that I'd misspelt the name I had entered, and refused to search for it. Meanwhile the physical book listed it just as I had typed it.

The sale of yellow pages was a good move. I tend to throw them out when they arrive in the post. Partly cos the listings are useless and partly cos the text is so small it's useless.

Yellow is no longer a directory but a digital marketing service. They are not there to give you the info you want but to give you the info they can sell. They offer websites, online store, advertising solutions.

I worked for Yellow Pages back in the days when it was part of Telecom which, at the time, was still a monopoly.

Everyone hated us, but at least we were aflush with cash!

Not really small but super annoying.
When you sell something on Facebook marketplace and agree on a price. Then when you meet up the other person tries to negotiate the price and eventually ends up not buying it. What a waste of time

I have a relative who sells a lot of stuff for his business on TradeMe. He used to also use Facebook Marketplace but doesn't anymore. Too many dickheads like you mentioned and tyre kickers. Too much time wasted.

I think if I get one or two more letters from the Heart Foundation then they'll have spent my entire donation on spamming me instead of actually using the money the way they advertised.

This is why I stopped donating to the Cancer Society. I couldn't handle the constant harassment over post/email/phone, demanding more money from me.

It's a shame because it's a cause that I would like to be able to support.
