My kindle screen recently cracked. I didn't really mistreat it more than any other device I owned, just that the kindle screen is very fragile I guess.

I contacted amazon support on the off chance they could do something.

The CSR asked me to power off /power on the device to see if that fixed the problem. I did what he asked and unsurprisingly the screen was still cracked after the off/on cycle.

At least I thought it was amusing.

Where did you buy it from? Amazon are usually pretty good about warranty replacements with Kindles- or at least offering discounts on new ones if it's out of warranty.

And I have read their screens are pretty sensitive to bumps, is the screen cracked or is the ink part just messed up?

Aside from that, some cs people need to learn to vary from the script, although I'm sure they probably get people who are adamant that their kindle is broken till they try a restart.

Screen is definitely cracked, with visible fracture lines. It's under warranty so amazon are sending a new one for free.

I was expecting them to probably say bad luck , buy another. Awesome customer service, Amazon.

[edit] bought direct from amazon.

had the same thing happen to my girlfriends kindle, was even outta the warranty (although it was more of a bleed rather than a crack - she is VERY careful with it lol..)

amazon straight out sent her another one, free of charge as long as her old one was returned within so many days, they then repaid for shipping and all.

not sure how it goes with shop bought ones as hers was directly from amazon but yea, awesome support they have!

My kindle has never broken (touch wood), but a friend of mine had their kindle do the funky screen trick on them.

They talked to Amazon, and a new one was sent out immediately, no charge.

Amazon sure know how to do customer service the right way.

Kudos Amazon, Kudos. :)

My girlfriends broke, they sent her a new one no questions asked. I've had similar good experiences with Amazon. Good customer service there, and shipping charges have come down in the last year or so too.
