Hello, I recently bought a house in the West and in my backyard, I have this power line (see below for diagram) with wires running above my bedroom. A friend of mine keeps on nagging us to move out after a few years because of the radiation that it is producing. (Apparently). What I want to ask is that will this transformer affect health in any way and bring in more radiation? Thanks.

The power line is like the one below.

I'm sure you'll be fine. They wouldn't hang them there if would cause significant problems to people living below.

As Sbiddle says, the evidence is pretty 50/50. There are reports of it causing it, and reports of it not causing it

I think a cool thing to would be:
- Get a fluorescent tube
- Hold one end of it
- Go outside at night, and watch it glow under the lines!

Or if you wanted to save on Solar lights, just plan fluoro tubes in your garden :)

The thing is that no one really knows. They used to think that smoking was good for you, and even doctors prescribed it as a cure for some things, but over time as research came out, it was proven that smoking is harmful to your health. But possibly so is living next to a motorway and breathing in the fumes or living next to a cell phone ower, or using a mobile phone, eatting and drinking things with additives etc, noone really knows the long term affects. Studies have shown some things, but other studies show other results. Life has risks.
Overtime we may actually know. Houses under powerlines do tend to be cheaper than if it was in a area that wasn't under a powerline, so there could be the perception that there could be problems, or people may just think they are ugly things to live next too.

Yeah definitely investigate some free lighting options.  worth a go!

But yeah, it will impact on house resale value/appeal etc.
Not enough is known about it really, but do you want to be a test subject long term?
Might be fine, might not, but very hard to prove currently one way or the other.

I actually thought that houses had to be a certain distance away from them. But possibly it is an older house.
I new subdivison I have seen sort of has a green zone under the powerlines and houses on each side of it.

Just wondering, had you not heard about this prior to buying your house? You could have used that as a negotiating factor to get a better price.

I think this will only work if there isn't anything else higher than the fluoro tube nearby, i.e. the house. I could be wrong though.

The lines are designed to be a certain height above the ground, so I don't believe there is a risk to you. I doubt the magnetic field would be able to deliver enough energy to harm you at that distance.

A lecturer showed us a picture once of a trampoline someone had placed midway up a power pylon like those in your picture. So just don't go doing that. :)
