Hi all,
I've got a trip to Auckland with the family coming up, staying in the CBD, and I'm looking for peoples recommendations on good places to dine out in the city.  We have two primary-school aged boys, and I don't want to rely on the usual fast-food suspects for the duration of our stay.

Any recommendations gratefully received

I just took my kids to Prego (in Ponsonby) and they have a kids menu for $12 that is great and you can have real Italian food as well. Plus the staff are really good with them and the 730pm-ish the transition to startled-looking adults (what are all these kids doing at a real restaurant) is quite funny.

www.prego.co.nz I believe.

On top of that, Wynyard Quarter is kid friendly (more so than the Viaduct) and I've always had good times at Vivace on High Street (upstairs) if that's closer to your base of operation.

There's a Wagamama as well, which is good at lunchtime for oodles of noodles.

One 2 One Cafe at 121 Ponsonby Road, Ponsonby (http://one2onecafe.co.nz) has a children's sandpit and play area out the back. That's great for keeping younger kids occupied while dining. I'm no food critic, but food was standard priced and standard quality.

Blatant plug - cafe top end of Dominion Rd, Tuihana Cafe.

For something more central, try Elliott Stables - lots of food choices, and you can all eat something different but sit in the same central place (think upmarket food court)

Been a little while since we've been, but my kids really enjoyed Gengis Khan  (380 Manukau Rd)   - All you can eat, they love choosing and watching their food getting cooked but I think the real highlight is the mickey mouse pancakes and heaps of ice cream!

Yes it is fast food but not the usual suspects, but a trip out to Carls Jr in Glen Innes wont go amiss

We watched that being built and open with interest. Then came across this:

Don't think we'll be trying it! :P
