In line with some of the other threads that exist in this forum, I thought I'd start one on restaurants.

Friday night we ate at Kermadec in Auckland CBD/Viaduct. Fine Dining (There is also a Brasserie).

Both food and service were exceptional, rate it a solid 8.75/10. Pricey but worth it.

We all had seafood except for my wife who had the venison. Least gamey and most incredibly tender venison I have ever eaten (and I have eaten a fair bit).

Highly recommend it.

Great idea!!

I will carry it on and start with, I suppose, a slightly generic type of restaurant...

Lonestar in Dunedin.

Ate there a couple of nights ago.
Always great service.
Food quality was superb, and the portions are ALWAYS massive.
The Steinlager Battered Onion Rings for an Entree were pretty amazing.

Definitely my go to restaurant.

9/10

Restaurant type: Tex-mex, I guess.
Price range: $27 - $37 for a main.

Actually it might be useful to put a price range in and also a type of restaurant so people get some better idea for comparisons sakes.

I went to the one in Napier last year and it was excellent too.

Hamilton Lone Star is also good.
I don't recommend the Hog's Breath Cafe though. Gimmicky, overpriced, Cobb & Co standard fare. Big portions of average food. Go to Lone Star instead.

Went to Raviz on Ponsonby Road on Saturday Night.
Had had a few lagers, but the food was good (I asked for hot, it cam 'kiwi' hot I suppose, would have preferred hotter)

Mains $18-$20
Service Good and fast
Recommend. I'd give 7.5/10

New Delhi Indian in Royal Oak is always good. I don't prefer heat in my food so I can only rate the butter chicken, mango chicken and some of the Kormas on mild, which I consider excellent and the Raita and Naan are excellent. Of particular mention worthiness is the tikka chicken which is some of the best chicken I've eaten anywhere.

You're probably better off reading and posting to http://www.dineout.co.nz for reviews, it's very well established... unless you're specifically interested in what/where your forum friends eat.

Yah I review there as well, but it's the same for the other threads like movies and books, it's just a general interest thing and it's about personal recommendations as well. Bit of community etc

Bellota in Federal Street.

Food was awesome. Ox Tail and Pork Belly Pate (2 separate dishes) were the winners for me.

$5.50 for a small Tapa (2 portions), $8.00-$9.00 for a larger one.

Service was good, nice atmosphere.

+1 . I get mine hot, often Indian hot. They vary slightly from the kind of 'Standard Indian' tastes that you get, in a good way. Nice environment, friendly service.

I am looking forward to CRU next weekend. Degustation format, no menus :)

Best food I've had in Auckland by some margin, in the high end dining degustation format was Sidart. If you have a significant event like a anniversary or birthday, I can't highly recommend it enough. Sid is a LEGEND.
