Could someone try and access ancestry.com.au please, its not working for me. I think it may be down due to them giving free access to War Records for the next four days.

Your link is a facebook page with a security wearning. Is there a reason for this?

Because people copy links from Facebook? Just go to the URL in the link though, and it's working fine and fast. Do not go through Facebook links - why give them the pleasure?

Working for me.

All links on www.facebook.com go through facebook. Like everything else on the web, don't copy things at value face. Just try the link I've just posted for example ;)

Potentially because they forgot to renew their domain...

[njones@kokako ~]$ whois ancestry.com.au

Edit: Expansion on this, looks like ancestry.com.au as a result got dropped from the .com.au DNS zones, so yeah, people that have got it working likely have DNS Caches at some point in their connection remembering the location.

Works for me too. Not good though if they did forget to renew their domain. However I think that some extensions will continue to work after expiration, unlike .nz domains which tend to drop of straightaway.

Not in this case, definitely dropped out of the au nameservers.

http://mydnscheck.com/ancestry.com.au

people for whom it is working, will be seeing DNS results that are cached by their DNS servers.

I spoke with Ancestry support. They are saying that it is a problem with bigpond. I don't have bigpond and it works fine. the people who are calling apparently use big pond.

Not working for me in New Zealand.  Constantly get page can not be displayed.  Or if home page comes up you can't log in.  Not a happy bunny.  Hope they extend their access to the army records!!

@AncestryComAu: Technical issues with the site today. Working hard to fix. Thanks for your patience!

Could have remaining issues for some, for a little while as the ISPs that cached the "domain doesn't exist" responses purge them from their caches.

It's now down for me. It looks like they have made modifications to the domain from the whois, so those changes could take a while to propagate.
