heard the tail end of an ad on the radio today, advertising cutshop.co.nz.  sounded interesting - they supply timber cut to size for you.  went to take a look at the website tonight, but.....

they probably didn't say 'dot nz' in the add, I probably assumed it. perhaps it needs to be made clear.

+1 Why wouldn't they use a .co.nz, as many people will type that in like you did. You would either have a .com(if you can get it) or a .nz, or both if you are a NZ business. .co s ...are not that well known

If it is, it begs the question whether the name is trademarked by someone else. One thing I do when choosing a company name is check the domains that are available.

They seem to be fine on that count - http://www.iponz.govt.nz/app/Extra/IP/TM/Qbe.aspx?sid=634717691831933863

I always end up typing a .nz or .uk after a .co domain name without thinking..

Anyway, when I last looked at cutshop I got the impression they just did flat panels cut to square sizes - is that all they offer or will they CNC stuff out of an illustrator file or similar?

Hi I can shed some light on Cutshop, we use to use .co.nz but due to legal reasons had to change to .co and .com is
not available. It know what you are saying about the radio add and on the new ones we will make it clearer.

We have 2 CNC's and can cut Vector, EPS, DWG and DXF files. We mainly cut flat pack cabinets but have cut coffins, dog houses
camper vans so we are quite flexible.

IM(NS)HO if you cant get the .co.nz then you re brand to something that you can buy.

.co is the lepper of domains - half has fallen off.

+1 You don't buy a .co instead of a .co.nz, you would only buy as well as. There are also other .nz domains, such as .net.nz. The other thing companies do if the .co.nz domain isn't available is do something like insertbrandnamenz.com . .co.nz or .com are really the best options IMHO.

Personally I would get a new domain name with .nz on the end and get someone smart to redirect it, and change your marketing.
