I'm off in a couple of weeks to have alook around Europe - 10 countries in 20 days.

Taking my LG Optimus 2x with me which should suffice for internet access (I have a cheap no name android 7" tablet but find my LG easier to use despite the smaller screen)

Was looking at an international sim card mainly for data access (messaging through viber) but are free wifi spots easy enough to tap into in Europe?

Alternatively would I be better off buying a sim card over there - the issue is I'll be going through 10 countries so the one sim card would have to work in most of them (UK, France, Italy, Germany, Holland, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, and some others)

Any suggestions guys?

Look into Boingo wifi. Worked well for me in a little bit of that part of the world last year.

Forget mobile data for any significant usage. I've used Boingo a lot in the past when travelling in the US and Europe and it's fantastic.

check out www.maxroam.com, they do pre-paid data only simcards for travelling, pricing seemed competitive for me and easy to add more while travelling.
