Yur not dreaming they are actually going to build one. Will take 20yrs to complete.  If you are in your late teens early 20's change your goals make it number one to get to work / live on the enterprise and go where no kiwi has gone before! Even if it only has a nuclear powered reactor! Might have to wait awhile longer for the Warp drive to be invented.  Startrek lore the warp drive wasn't invented till 2069 if I remember right. :)

Quote
The project requires nine years of research and 11 years of development, with the ship built in space. It would be powered by a 1.5-gigawatt nuclear reactor and include three landing craft. The project attempts to solve the problem of gravity by including a gravity wheel in the ship's saucer section. At 960 metres long, the Enterprise would be the largest craft made by man. "The Enterprise will inspire us," the website says. "The ship will be over a half mile in length.

Let me rephrase that, not actually building one now but that's the plan for the very near future.

Forget about the pyramids or the tallest skyscrapers, the Enterprise will be the new 7th wonder of the world!

That's just typical coming from a Starwars fan. :)

Look, I want to travel the stars as much as anybody but this is fantasy. We might as well have dragon breeding program.

SpaceX has actually put rockets and payloads into space. They actually have a rocket, that works.

If one cent that could have gone to SpaceX goes to this it will be a tragedy.

Didn't anybody tell you I was a hacker?

Except for the not insignificant detail that it won't be anywhere on this world to be found....

*crosses fingers*

Would rather they build the city of Atlantis (off Stargate Atlantis) but each their own!

Ongoing funds for this project may depend in part on continuing the fanbase by producing another Star Trek TV series.

If I had the choice I'd invest in another TV series before this project ; ).

Got to love it though. I hope it lives long, and prospers.

True. But if he gets the backing of NASA and NASA like putting money into big dream projects a Starship Enterprise could be parked up in space in 20 or so years from now.  Imagine if they made their first mission to mars in the Enterprise.
