I installed a new dynamix master filter 3pr as per instructions. Now my phone says 'check tel line'.
Where am I going wrong? Please help?

Hi, so Orange pair to inbound line, Green Pair to modem, and blue pair to voice wiring.

If you plug your cordless phone into the modem port do you get a line?

Re check the scotch locs, if you used pliers rather than the proper tool then it pays to close the loc by approaching it from several directions to ensure its closed level, dont need to sqeeze the $hit out of it, just firm.

I did all that, got fed up and put back as it was, now nothing is working! Fml

I am trying to upload a picture of what I have done, but its not working...
I will try to describe as best I can.

Main line (cat5) comes into house to my kitchen jackpoint
It's too short to carry onto roof, so I extend it with ScotchLocs and Cat6
I connect Bu/Wh to Or/Wh on Filter (Line)
I connect Bu/Wh on Filter to Bu/Wh to new cable run to Phone jack
I connect Gn/Wh on Filter to Bu/wh to new cable to ADSL Jack

My phone now gives me no dial tone, and the modem doesnt connect.

I have got everything running now, but back to the old way:
Main line comes into jack point, paralleled to line to modem where I have a filter on that line.

The question is, WHY doesn't the filter work!? I bought it new today from PB Tech in Penrose Akl

How much did you pay for the splitter? i have seen them at PB they are very light and cost about $20, i am a work for a chorus contractor and the ones we use are alot heavier and cost around $90, you can get them from sparky style wholesale stores, sory what i am trying to say is it could be a dud splitter, and hate seeing cheep equipment installed

It is a dynamix filter. I went to JA Russells Penrose to get scotchLocs and I saw the same filter there too. I am an electrical apprentice, so I have some knowledge on the subject, but admittedly, I have done more data and control than phone...

do you have dsl sync? if so try phone in that JP and you should get DT if not you have a one leg dis somewhere if you did get DT then there is a pron with your wiring somewhere.

Best way to check these sorts of problems is with a test phone, so that you can test the cables at every connection point and see where the problem is.

You can buy a test phone, or do the same as I did and make one up (much cheaper). I brought a cheap phone ($20), cut into the lead and soldered alligator clips and a BT plug on. That way you can strip the wires at every point (start at the incoming) and conclusively find the problem.

You don't need the BT plug, and in fact could probably get away with just stripping the cable coming out of the phone and twisting it on to the cable you want to test.

That sounds like a bloody good idea. Thank you for that. My wife is fed up with me being the roof all this time, so I will report back in the week with an update. Cheers for all the help guys!
