I was a bit shocked to see some news coverage of this kiwi teacher in China.

I still couldn't understand the mentality behind what he did to that 5-year-old girl

I can't think of any time or place that behaviour would be acceptable. I'm also somewhat shocked he's not in jail, picking up a 5 year old child to over your head and throwing them in a pool where they would have drowned if not for the intervention of a third party is surely attempted murder?

So, lets look at it the other way, if the child had run into the gent, caused him to fall and break his pelvis or neck of femur ( not uncommon accidents in people over 55), would the event have just been swept under the carpet?

Would the child have really drowned? Could it be fair to say most kiwi kids by age 5 can dog paddle their way to the edge of a pool?

There is an awful amount of ruckus being made over something that fathers do with their children in pools the world over...
Hardly news worthy...

As long as he didnt pick up the girl and throw her into the pool than yes, it would not have made the news.. instead it would have been an accident....

He is not the childs father, and it appears that he did it in anger. Your example is incomparable

And at least he never pegged her on the line or threw her in the dryer or attacked her causing her liver to split in half.
Knowing the media they were probably just having fun but for interesting news they blew it all out of proportion.

A kid doesn't deserve to be thrown in a pool by a angry stranger because she may have accidentally run into him.

The guy was probably pissed about losing his contract and took it out on the kid, loser imo.

Let's not look at it any other way.

The gent didn't fall over. If he DID become injured from a fall as a result of a 5 year old CHINESE girl then that would have been an accident. His act was not.

Your next utterance beggars belief! It is not fair to say that any 5 year old can swim, and being thrown from such a height it was not known how deep the pool was. She may have hit bottom if it was shallow and could have sustained a knock to the head that could have prevented her dog paddling. She was CHINESE and not that it should make a difference but why would you put any person at risk.

When a father 'throws' their child into a pool I am assuming your refer a playful time and a willingness to participate, the child would then instinctively know that the father would not knowingly harm and would be at hand to support if needed.

This A**HOLE had no such intention and the child would have been fearful for her life as she could not know that her landing spot would have been water. He could have intentionally or unintentionally hurled her to the (assumed) concrete edging of the pool.

This would have been Headline news if any serious or fatality occurred. In China they have the death penalty, one moments anger could have been his last.

Way to go representing Kiwis. I cannot believe anyone can think of defending the actions of this person.

Based on the story presented the guy has to be a complete $### or have very serious problems or both.

I don't know how that legal system works but I would not have accepted a single $ from him. He should have been convicted.

In NZ - that is what would have happened.

Can''t argue with that logic. If you think a child is unattended then the first thing you should do is throw them in a pool. Naturally.

If it had been my 5 year old daughter he'd done that to, I'd have picked him up and thrown him into a pool as well. One without any water in it.
