Oh yeah.. was pretty decent in Kapiti.

Felt it for about 15secs in Christchurch, made the chandlers shake around a wee bit. Parents in Nelson felt it quite well though and rung me thinking it was a Christchurch shake.

Gave me a bit of a fright, of all the nights to be the on call person for our building, no damage in our 3 Wellington CBD buildings just lifts out in one of the buildings.

Heard it coming then felt it. Ran straight for my 50 inch on the wall and hugged it. Blu-rays went for a ride on the shelf. Was shaken but not stirred.

It was BIG in Palmerston North and lasted 30-40 seconds here. It's the first quake in a very long time that scared me enough to run for cover (after making sure the TV was secure and gas heater off). It's also done some damage to my house - haven't checked the exterior yet but internally I have damaged ceilings and one wall.

Thread title should probably be modified. OP's own link shows that it was much closer to other towns and cities than Wellington. Kinda odd how the news declared it a Wellington quake also...

Why such a big difference?

It was a strong, long jolt here in Johnsonville. Haven't had something like this for years.

I saw on Facebook there was a quake. I had to look up to see if she was joking. Never had the slightest feel here.  I was sitting up reading then and never felt it. This at Papamoa.  I know we are quite a wy from it but they reckon felt country wide

Also didn't feel anything in Papamoa, although I was living in Christchurch so maybe I don't feel the smaller ones anymore??
