Lost Cockatiel - Advice?

Hey guys,

My girlfriend opened the door forgetting the cage was open and let good ol' charlie out in to the fresh Mount Roskill air.

She went missing at 1:30PM but I got home at 11PM to learn she was gone. I called her outside and I think I heard her squak once, but not too sure.

Has anyone had any experience with this? What to do...ect. Its been an inside bird all its life, so not sure if it will survive a night in the wild. I'm posting on a technology forum, so I'm kinda out of options.

I lost a lovebird once under similar circumstances, was tame enough to take to the Mall on my shoulder but one day flew off.

Not a whole lot you can do apart from leaving the cage outside for it, fully prepped with food of course, It's bound to get hungry after a bit and probably won't know how to find food.

Try asking the neighbors too, and any local vets in case someone managed to catch it.

We lost a cockatiel a few years ago and he was found two days later approx 2 - 3 km's away. Luckily I had called the local spca for advice when he flew away and the man who found him rang the spca as well so I got him back that way. You could also ask on the Pets and Animals part on the Trademe message board.

Good luck with finding her.

Edit: I just remembered about a website called Petsonthenet and if you go there you will see that a cockatiel was found yesterday in Meadowbank. Hopefully it's yours.

Have you got a picture (not sure what a cockatiel looks like I"m afraid)? We can post it on twitter, that SPCA lost pets website etc...

thousands of eyes are good.

Hey guys!

Thanks for all the input. I have pictures for all. Not sure if the cockatiel in meadowbank is ours, but there is a phone number on the ad we are calling now. Apparently our bird flew in that direction when it left the house, so there is hope!
