Ok, torrents are the way to go for speed, yet I've tried many times with different torrent applications with little success, so I'm guessin I'm doing 2 things wrong...

1) My setup is not configured properly for premium results
2) I have no 'private' trackers/connections

So can you please educate me as how to properly setup uTorrent for optimum speed...

Port Fowarding

I've read the instructions on portfoward.com for my model router, yet its just not getting through...
- My router is a D-Link DSL G604T
- I go to 'Virtual Server' (the same as port foward)
- I select 'User' and 'Add'
This brings me to the 'Rule Management' screen
- I gave the rule the name of 'uTorrent'
Now this is where I get confused and portfoward.com looses me...
I have to foward the port used in uTorrent...thats fine
But there are 3 protocols to choose from...TCP, UDP, TCP/UDP...which one or ones should i use?
And then theres 'Port Start', 'Port End', and 'Port Map'.....what do I put in all these???

Help!

Another related question...why cant I just use UPnP?....and I've disabled that in uTorrent as the instructions say to, but should I disable it in my router as well?

Nah thats the page I'm already lookin at, like I said, I get lost at the last step...
Do I need TCP?...or UDP?
Should they be both the same number?....the port number in uTorrent?
What number do I start the 'port start' at?
What number do I stop the 'port stop' at?
What number do I use for 'port map'?

Ok, I think I've got this sussed now....

I tried each individual setting, TCP with port number in all three, UDP with port number in all three etc etc....and last TCP/UDP with the port number in all three boxes....

First attemp actually worked, but then when I disabled UPnP in my router, it no longer worked....strange.....so I re-enabled it but the port fowarding test still came back failed.....

Frustrating as hell.

In the end, I've figured out the problem was my DHCP server...what good is creating a rule and fowarding a port when DHCP has changed my internal IP address from 10.1.1.3 to 10.1.1.5

So now thats all good, have fowarded ports for both Shareaza and uTorrent, and disabled UPnP, as I read its not good for security....

So now I will find out if it actually makes a difference (port fowarding) as opposed to using UPnP....

Thanks for the help Brad.

My Belkin router is much easier to set up port forwarding for. I have UPnP turned off, get excellent torrent speeds at the moment
