Not sure where to post this, so I'll post it here.

Avatar 3D Blu ray "Collectors Edition" will be available in NZ from October 24th. (Globally from October 15th)

Mighty Ape and Fishpond are already offering it via pre-order. I have it on pre-order.

I'm sure it will be sold retail, too, at about the same time.

Background:

I bought a 3D blu ray player last week to use with my LG D2542P 3D PC Monitor...and the first video I wanted to buy was Avatar 3D...only to discover it wasn't available due to an exclusive distribution arrangement with Panasonic for the past 18 months. The only way to get it was with a Panasonic 3D TV.

Until (almost) now.

I had thought about ordering one via Amazon - shipping on the 15th - but apparently it's hard to crack the region coding for Blu ray for the Philips player I have (BDP5200 - 3D / Wi-Fi)

The previous 2D edition is region free (I have a US copy from Amazon) so the new one might be too ... BUT you probably won't be able to find out for sure until people have them in their hands.

I suspect that the Amazon version is region free as the Amazon US site makes no mention of coding and the Amazon UK site says region free..

In any case. Amazon isn't any cheaper....and not any faster if you go the cheapest shipping route. Then the Amazon-sourced disc would arrive about a week after the one sent by a local vendor...and if you go the fastest shipping method from Amazon, you pay 1.5 times the cost of the disc in shipping charges....to get it maybe 3-5 days earlier.

I'm not that desperate. :-)

Try Amazon.co.uk, same zone as NZ for Blu-rays and even with shipping and conversion will be cheaper than here.

Edit:
$18 pounds minus tax plus shipping.
Slap in a couple of blu-rays that you are after and the price drops a bit more due to the shipping increasing but averaging less per disc.
I use Amazon UK all the time and completely bypass NZ retailers in order to get the movies I want when I want them and at a cheaper cost for the most part.
