Hi

Ive just purchased some new car speakers.
Problem is the speaker harness is outdated. I have a '92 Navara.
Just wondering if anyone knows where to get an adapter like this from?

I was told I could just cut the connector off and crimp the provided speaker wire with the cars speaker wiring. But im not so skilled around this.
I was given some connectors like these but am unsure what to connect to what. Thus wanting a harness instead.

yes chop off the old connector, the ones you have a picture of are callet "bullet" connectors, simply strip about 3mm of insulation off the wire twist, insert and crimp down on the blue insulated peice so that it makes contact with the bare copper wire.

You can get the crimp tool from many auto parts store/tool shops/even the warehouse, you are looking for the tool that has the red/blue/yellow oval type grooves in the jaw, these correspond to the size of connector you are crimping (in your case blue)

There'll be just as much hassle with getting the harness organised as it will be to cut off the existing connectors and install the the bullet connectors like you show at the bottom of your post. Connect the top connector to the car wiring and the bottom connector to the speaker wires.

Cut the wires and strip about 5mm of insulation off the end of each wire. Insert the wire into the back of the connector and squeeze the area of the connector where the wire inserts into being sure to firmly squeeze the metal part of the connector onto the wire. Be careful and don't deform the other end where the connectors plug into each other. You can squeeze the connectors with a strong pair of pliers or even vice grips.

P.S Just read Gregs post, Yep it's best to use a proper tool but pliers will do the job nearly as well without the cost of buying the special tool.

Also if you are just putting speakers into the factory holes dont bother going too flash, since they are not really operating in a box you wont be able to put the high power levels into them that a fancy one is made to handle.

I would not use those bullet connectors for anything at all. All the cheap connectors they sell at auto stores are just terrible. Maybe buy some connectors from a professional car stereo installer, they would use way better product.

There are many levels you can go to with this.

As above though, it would be cheapest to simply cut of the old fashioned plastic block connector in your car. Strip about 15mm of insulation off each cable and you're halfway there.

At this point you can either
Chose to crimp on suitable connectors. This is fairly easy in that you just insert your exposed wire into the connector and squash the connector down tight with a pair of pliers, a crimp tool or a hammer etc...

OR

Wrap the exposed cable tightly directly around the speaker terminals and either
1) cover in insulation tape, so it doesn't fall off.
2) solder in place.

Any of the above will get you going.

I normally just solder to the speaker or buy the spade crimps and just connect straight to the speaker without joins. choco blocks work well also if your real lazy.

What's your reasoning for not using the bullet connectors in my experience they work very well.

Shrub: I normally just solder to the speaker or buy the spade crimps and just connect straight to the speaker without joins. choco blocks work well also if your real lazy.

Sometime there's not enough cable to connect directly to the speaker though it's a good idea if you can as the less connections the better. Though having said that it can be handy to be able to easily remove the speakers when doing other work in that area so having connectors is quite often a good idea. Chocolate block connectors are easy and simple too.

Thanks. but i found a place that had a harness instead

. got it and installed. had to drill some more new wholes to screw in the speaker.

A problem has arised. Here is what happens with one of the speakers:

I am wondering if this is caused by a short or something?
As you can see it happens around the beat of the song.
The wires are ok and it plays fine when the speaker is not screwed in to the door.
I am thinking its the contact between the speaker, the screws and the door.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Right now the speaker just sits in its plastic hole in the door secured only by the door panel.

I did not really detect the problem from the video.

If one side of the speaker is designed to be earthed (connected to negative ground) it could be you have the wires wrong way around for that speaker.

youtube tag works fine you need to put only the wNPvT3iGsfw part inside the tag.

I would say you've either crossed the polarity of the speaker ( + / - around the wrong way) or your new speakers require more air movement to make a better bottom end sound which you're not getting in the door.

Again, the video pretty much useless. You'll need to better describe what's happening.

However make sure the screws or something else isnt' causing the frame of the speaker to bend, this will cause issues, or interfering with the cone itself.
