Some time ago I went to the Wellington Tawa branch and was told sub of the day was no longer available, is that at the discretion of each store or is it for the whole franchise?

ajobbins: The sub of the day was a loss leader. Unless you also got something else they were losing money - and I suspect most people didn't buy anything else.

sbiddle: It wasn't a loss leader - it was actually just the normal price for all of those subs in the end. When they hiked the price they pulled the sub of the day deal.

sidefx: They still have $8(?) footlong subs don't they? Seems like decent value relative to most other fastfoods or cafe\sandwich bars, and healthier (at least you get a decent amount of salad)
I seem to remember the original (pre-price rises) 6inch SOTD deals were pretty amazing value though.
mattwnz: It's relativity healthy as long as you don't get all the sauces.
sbiddle: Sub of the day across the whole chain disappeared around a year or so ago.
Some stores in the Wgtn CBD still do a sub of the day deal with drink, but will only do this on the particular day, unlike the previous chain wide deal that applied any day of the week.

The last one I had was at the afternoon at the Hobbit movie premiere ... Courtenay Place. they still had the 7 day menu up ... Then before Christmas, Tawa said it was discontinued ... I had to ask as the sub of the day was off the menu.
