I believe that number is originally Swanson exchange, but with number porting it could be anywhere in Auckland. So basically no way to tell nowadays.

I was going to suggest

http://www.nad.org.nz/09GeographicalCodes.php

but it doesn't seem anyway as helpful as the 03 version

These days you cant take the CID for gospel in terms of location. With voip the cid can be changed to anything and as coffeebaron mentioned porting can screw things up too.

The only thing you can do is tell what LICA or LCA the number belongs to. With porting it could be anywhere in that area,.

The NAD website contains the NZ number database with LICA's and LCA's.

Local number ports have just surpassed 400000 numbers, averaging around 10000 new ports per month at present.

NEAX number ranges aren't public, but are available. If the number isn't ported then these are accurate as numbers can't be moved between exchanges, but you need to know if the number is a port of not. With such a massive number of ported numbers now NEAX number ranges are pointless unless you know the number is on Telecom.

I know people / business that have a common 0800 number and depending on the area the caller is calling from it is then routed to the nearest branch/dealer for this particular business.

Yes we have a 0800 that diverts or offers choice of store this is for chat leads that give regional number and no other clues just trying to divert email to nearest store to handle.

Can't be done with any real degree of accuracy.

So are these emails comming from a website contact page?
You could try adding a 'city/suburb' dropdown to this form.

OR (without knowing the nature of business) on the contacts page you could list all the stores / dealers and have a email link which populates the subject heading with the particular store/dealer  (or some kind of text/code you know and can then match to the store/dealer etc).
