These threads seem to be getting a little ridiculous.

I mean, by all means start a discussion thread at announcement, but the endless pricing/release date/ordering things the discussions get bogged down makes them far less useful to actual owners when the device is released. Could we not separate these discussions?

...or maybe I'm the only one who thinks these don't make a whole lotta sense?

I thought the same thing when I saw the "PS4 owners' thread" before the thing had even been announced... and I guess that's what you're talking about too :)

Wait until the device is actually available to buy before starting an owners' thread for it.

I have to admit when I saw that thread my reaction was "Another one!! Really?"

It would probably be far better served to have a speculative thread prior to actual release, and then the Owners thread once people can actually get their hands on it!

Or maybe there is a badge for the person who has the most trending topics

There's no badge for that, but... I have an opinion on people creating "owners" threads before things even exist.

There's no breach of FUG so really can't do much. It's more the case of you folks, the community, making it clear to some people this is something beyond... well, a joke really. Perhaps trying to win a popularity contest?

A discussion thread (pre release) and then a separate owners thread would be far better! That way there wouldn't be 100 pages of rubbish (S3 thread comes to mind) before anyone has even touched the device!!!

Speculation threads make sense. Combining owner/speculation threads/future owner ad infinitum for one device makes a hell of a mess for anyone wanting to read about a device after release who is not interested in the speculation. After release lock the first thread and move on!

Well I'm done creating them then. The PS4 thread was created less than *1* day before the official announcement and I thought it would be good, because people could share their speculation and build some excitement. Surely if it bothers you, don't read until you get your device, but since it seems to have incensed so many people, I won't bother trying to get people discussing up coming products.

Also for the record, the topics are created with the wording in the topic thought out so it's not JUST an owners discussion thread.

i think the issue is just the title of the thread, rename the title to "Discussion about upcoming XYZ" and you'd be fine.

Its not an owners thread, no one can own future products until their release date.

Well It's one thread for discussing the upcoming and home to owners when it happens. You can't win, you try and make 1 thread to cover multiple topics, people complain, you make many topics, mods complain.

Solution that will keep everyone happy, no topics of this nature will get made by me, and then no-one can complain!
