Flying into Brisbane and planning to buy Virgin Mobile's $29 cap which gives me 1gb data for my travels ...

Can't find it on the website but I know a few people here have virgin sims - how long does the SIM last if I don't top up? the prepay credit expires in 28 days but if I return 11 mths later will the SIM still be active?

And can you purchase that sim kit at the (Brisbane) airport if anyone knows?

Cheers

Not sure about airport, but can buy at Phone stores and supermarkets with drivers license/passport for id. Optus Sims will die after 2 months.

p.s. Optus has $15 recharge which gives you 100sms and 500mb data on top of $15 credit, which lasts 15 days: https://www.optus.com.au/shop/mobilephone/topup (I'm here right now 😃)

An update

Went to a supermarket

$2 virgin sim
$25 for a $29 top up voucher
= AUD 27

1gb data
400 mins anywhere around the world that has a phone line

In nz you put the sim in and it works
In oz you ring a filipino (very polite) csr who spends 36 mins trying to activate after you tell them your grand mother's maiden name (exaggeration)

Speed test 10Mbps/1Mbps

Wifihotspotted to my other gadgets and phones

Now maybe i should call my overseas grandmother ... But talk for 7 hrs? Hmm ... I need a holiday!

On the other hand ... Will probably use some data to watch replay of Formula One on the local tv on demand ... Coz i missed the Live Stream ... And the other half Of the data well get it from the free wifi in the motel :)
