Ok so just had the best call from 0016188166213...

...you be the judge, was this the best deal all day?!

The problem is... I don't have a land line, I use VoIP.

Is this a call from Spirit Telecom?

You are nice. Last Indian scam call I received trying to create a "web site" for my business I started playing a porn clip in the background. It took the guy 45 seconds to decide it was too much and disconnect.

Don't know who it was from.  I was on another call, so I didn't have time to string him along.  I just went back to the other call and left him to listen to the hold music... clearly he didn't stick about long.

Still waiting for scammers to call me... but being on Genius and not in phone book tends to lower my chances...

I treat any cold call, especially if the number is withheld, or an overseas number, as a scam call these days. Even cold callers calling from NZ numbers can be scam ones, as I received one from someone who said they were from orcon, and were calling from an 09 number with an indian accent. Businesses that cold call are probably not the ones you want to do business with anyway.

Recently, I have had a run of people calling about home heating, and home ventilation systems.

I just say "sorry I never take unsolicited commercial calls" and hang up.

I did get the classic one a while ago - strong Indian accent, crackly VOIP line, and "I'm calling from 'The Internet Company' and we are monitoring your computer and it has a virus" a while ago. I didn't hang up on that one because I was bored, and I strung along for enjoyment for quite a while. Tied then in knots trying to follow their instructions on my "old computer" which runs "VAX VMS". They weren't quite sure which version of Windows that was! Click on what? ... no, sorry, I don't have a mouse .......

What software do you use to record these? Or is this a work phone?

I'd be guessing Don is on 2talk if he is using VOIP.

They have quite good call recording functions built in to the VOIP service.

yes sir, 2talks voice recording to email feature is great.  I use it all the time.  As we're currently dealing with EQC I can see the recordings coming in handy more and more often.

I often use the remote dialtone of 2talk just to get the call recording, and being able to have it show my home caller ID even when I am calling from work is just great.

For some "spam" calls i just say, hang on a sec, then put the phone down and carry on doing what i was doing.

Some say on for ages.

Right. So they are calling on behalf of Origin Communications (origincommunications.co.nz) then?

Interesting.

"You'll be very glad to know".

How could they possibly know you will be glad?
