Hey,

I'm considering setting up a proxy for the intention of youtube; is there any legal issues with transmitting content from youtube?

I know there are sites that convert youtube into MP3, but I can't find any real answer unless I pay silly amounts to a Lawyer.

- Are you providing access to YouTube without breaking its functionality or without reformatting it in any way? If so then you are just an access provider and shouldn't worry, except that they may at their discretion block your IP address at any time. Worst case they may bring lawsuit complaining and you will have to get some good tech lawyer to defend this point of view

- Are you downloading the content, hosting it yourself and then distributing? That's copyright infringement right there.

Either way I'd say you might end up with some legal bills.

Obviously usual disclaimer IANAL, etc.

Pretty much the site will be reproduced as it is... without video. I'll have a deeper look.

At least one of the major free youtube proxy providers has offices in London.
