Hi, I had a look on Genesis's website in their press release area and their gas price plans they don't list the price hike yet.  Anyone else got these?  The daily charge going to $1.60 from $1.35 I think.

I got an email a few days ago, our price is going up by 25c from 72.84c to 97.84c. It also said if you switch electricity to them then you'll get a 25c per day discount.

Wow... I'd look at getting a couple of big cylinders plumbed in out of principle...

yip, got a similar letter, a 25c increase in the daily charge for gas, but also a 25c daily discount if you have a dual fuel account ( which we do, so no actual increase for us)

Its a way to get their gas customers to join up for power, and I guess they have looked at competing gas companies rates and worked out their potential gains are greater than their possible loss of customers...

the contact daily charge is $1.228 which is much higher.

the per kWh rate for the genesis gas is still one of the lower ones, and even after taking into account all the discounts (excluding the new dual fuel genesis discount) its still cheaper than contact and mercury.

with the new dual fuel discount it brings it back to what it was before, which makes it much cheaper than the others.

TalkieT - you pay a hell of a lot more for the gas in those bottles... they only make sense if you gas usage is low.

I run my hot water, cooking, and gas central heating off of articulated gas. I think my worst month last winter was around $225 for gas + power with the central heating running full time (21deg 0700-2200, 19deg 2200-0700).

We have the 45kg bottles x2.

Has been going for ages on the one bottle thus far but only cooking and hot water.

Amazing what a difference a new house makes!

Interesting, I thought about Might River Shares.  Read thru their booklet, and it mentioned that power demand could drop pushing down prices hence investor returns.  We should be grateful for power/gas rises ....

Mine is going up as well, almost 20%... Of course they start the email pointing out how long since the last price increase. Then they hit you.
