Hi There!

Anyone know in Auckland any fishing charter companies who might be prepared to do shorter fishing trips, maybe 2-3.5 hours. I want to take my 3 year old out  but I am worried much longer than that might be too much, plus I am prone to sea sickness, and the less time you feel seasick the better.

I am happy to pay a half day rate, I would just prefer a shorter trip.

Cheers

I tell you there is a niche in the market for this! On the occasions I have gone out fishing, 6-7 hrs is ages and you tend to catch more fish that you actual want/need.

a couple of hrs, enough fish for lunch or dinner and head home.

The little things make the biggest difference.

Absolutely this. I guess it's a matter of how far out you can go if you want 3-4 hours fishing. Most recent trips it's taken an hour back and forward (travelling) and a few hours or so of "fishing"

I would usually want 4 decent snapper or other nice edible fish, beyond that I end up giving them to others who didn't catch (or them me, depending).

In this instance I just wanna take my son out with a handline for him, give him the experience, hopefully get him a fish etc.

Found one place who said 5 hours, but it's a weekday.

Hunting and Fishing Whakatane organise tailored trips with letsgofishing.co.nz
It would be worthwhile asking your local if there's any Auckland based equivalents

The guys off Waiheke do this:

Fat Snapper: http://www.fatsnapper.co.nz/
and Adventure Fishing Charters: http://www.adventurefishing.co.nz/

I have been out with both of them a few times, their boats are pretty much exactly the same, they are friendly, will do all the 'fishy' work for you - you just show up and they do the rest.

They will meet you off the Waiheke Ferry, take you out for as long as it takes to get yourself enough fish (I have never not caught anything with them, sometimes it has been a bit harder than others, but usually about 3 hours max. - once we were back in filleting within an hour). They will fillet the fish for you and off you go. About $100-120 per person.

In summer, you even get to watch the Bronzies getting fed:

GZ probably requires the full YouTube URL. That link is a shortened URL. then again, it works about 50% of the time for me too.
