I have a couple of .nz domains that I would like to synchronise the expiry date of.

A few registrars let you do this for .com but as .nz has to be registered for a whole year (Orcon ?used? to offer month by month) it doesn't appear possible.

If I let them lapse into the redemption period then pay the coin on the date I want is this when the expiry date will be set? Any other ideas?

Thanks.

I use Metaname, which you can pay monthly, and pick x number of months to renew the domain at a time.
Won't help you with getting an exact day though :(

Neil is super helpful though, so if it's possible the would probably do it for you.

Always thought this was a dumb idea, however, if you have a lot of domains (especially .com) most registrars will offer a discount for mass renewals at one time.

Great way to save yourself coin, plus it removes maintenance by being able to do all your domains only once a year.

Very quick reply from Neil on a Saturday night!

Hi Scott,

Daniel is correct: The .nz system is built around the notion of
domain-months, so the best that you could do is fix up your names so
that they all come due within the same month.  As he says, Metaname
allows you to extend your term date by any number of months, not only
in 12-month blocks.  Since .nz transfers are free ( to and from
Metaname - check your existing registrar regarding transfers in), you
could even transfer back to your existing registrar after you've got
the term dates in line if that's what you wanted.

Btw, having to pay for the period that a name has been pending release
is a policy by the .nz registry to prevent domainers using the pending
release period to sit on names for a quarter of the normal price.

Kind regards

Most impressed!

I almost managed to forget to renew some domains recently - asked Neil if I paid on the evening before they were due if it would all be ok - he said it should be, but put a credit on my account anyway. Stellar support.

I just transferred one domain as a test and extended the term by 4 months.

So easy, so quick, all the options laid out cleanly, most impressed!

Metaname and Neil are fantastic.
Had nothing but amazing support from them, including some detailed troubleshooting of my DNS
