That big ugly grille looks awful, both here and on the Mazda 6.

The Japanese are getting too radical in their styling - I prefer the more conservative looking German designs.

Don't like Mazdas.
The only Japanese car I would ever buy is a Toyota.

maybe you should try one sometime

mazda and subaru are the two smaller Japan car makers that punching above their waist lines. both are spirited, bring out unique technologies and designs, and have a lot of fans both here and around the world. i say kudos to mazda and subaru.

toyota may be traditionally the more reliable brand but that isn't really the case any more. most of their cars are just so plain n boring. I wish I could love a toyota again but bah. maybe a 86RC (which shares with subaru)

The last Mazda I drove was the new Mazda 2 Demio sport. While I agree its a nice looking small car (apart from that hidious center console for the gears), it just did not have the zooooom zooom I was expecting and the cars performance was a real let down when compared to something like a VitzRS.

I recently had my Mazda SP20 stolen and I have to say it's been very hard to live without it.

I had it for over 7 years and loved it like a family member (ew...not like THAT).

Have now replaced it with a Nissan and while that's nice, it's not the Mazda.

I'd own another in a heartbeat if I had the cash.

understandable

Try a MazdaSpeed 3 or 6, or a MX-5.

On the new 2.2 diesel engine in the CX-5 or new 6.

The only differences between Mazda 2 "Sport" and "Classic" are cosmetic. There isn't much zoom zoom to be found in a Mazda 2 (except maybe some JDM models).

That's pre-mazda 3/axela era right ? (familia ? )

You can grab decent 04-06 Axelas 1.5 for around $9K nowdays.

Was it painstakingly slow though ? Those engines (1.5) are in alot of the jdm axelas (3) too.  115 hp

I have a small car with a similar engine and it goes well on the flat, but the lack of torque coupled with a tall geared four speed automatic can be a bit of a pain going up hills.

It doesn't bother me because I value fuel economy and I rarely even use the car anyway, but some people would much rather have the extra torque.

I had a 2.0 2004 Mazda3 and it was a pleasure to drive.  I drove an SP23 and to be honest it wasn't a lot quicker.
