Hi there

Not sure where to post this as it is sort-of on-topic, but I can't see a forum to put it in.

My wife has started to get spammy notifications inviting her to meet single women for "fun".

She gets a notification at the top of her phone (Samsung galaxy S2, Android Gingerbread, Telecom) and when she clicks on it she gets taken to a website.

There seem to be affiliate IDs in there, and something specifically mentioning "tray push" which I am guessing is something to do with the notifications she is getting.

All the apps on her phone seem legit. So we are unsure how or why she is getting this stuff.

Any ideas on how she has found herself in this situation, and more importantly how to get rid of these notifications.

All I can suggest is uninstalling likely apps 1 by 1 to see which offending app it is, likely causes are game apps, such as slots/gambling etc

Thanks for the suggestion. There are no gaming apps or anything that looks even slightly suspicious. It's all squeaky clean. But I think you are right... as much as it will be a pain to find, there are not many options really.

When you figure out what it is, make sure you come back and reply... it will help out anyone else who finds themselves in the same situation.

it wont be as 'clean' as you think. Theres always ways the devs can push you ads to make money on the side :)

I had this issue too.

There is an app (from memory called "AirPush Detector"?) that you can install and run, which identifies the offending app so you can uninstall it. I can't even remember which app did it to me, but the detector app identified it, and then I uninstalled it. Spam went away.

Thanks everyone. We downloaded the AirPush Detector, and that fingered an app called "Ultimate Special FX". My wife has found a setting in there for push notifications and turned it off. We will see if the notifications come back.
