Okay, so im a bit of a surgery hog. Ive had a few over my lifetime, and another last week.

I require three more this year (so far that I know of). Including one to have an implanted electronic medical device removed from my upper torso.

The latest attempt to get this device removed was met with a letter stating the following:

Based on the information provided to us by your GP, a priority was assigned to your referral when it was recieved. Unforntunately, your priority is lower than the other patients referred to us for assessment. We will therefore not be able to provide you with an appointment to see a specialist.

This is for surgery I require dammit. So, rather than say "Its gonna be an 18 month wait", they just refuse to do it. Then their waiting lists look nice and short, and they look efficient (and patients DONT get the treatments they require!).

My other two surgeries for this year are already going to be privately done because I cant wait for them due to quality of life issues.

Maybe schools could take a leaf out of this book - expel all students who fail to acheive 'A' marks, then your school will only have smart, well performing children.

Thanks Hawkes Bay District Health Board. Your service doesnt suck, and appears to be completely competent, fair, and ensures the surgical needs of productive, hardworking, taxpaying, ratepaying & VOTING residents of Hawkes Bay are adequately met.

Not.

The most interesting thing is that the word of a GP is probably being rated by a clerk with no knowledge of medicine at all...

The whole Health system in NZ is a joke. There are other countries with grossly inefficient public health systems as well (British NHS is another) but you can argue that NZ has the money to fix it, we just have a government who loves to keep blaming every past government for todays problems despite the fact they have been in power themselves for 7 years and in many ways contributed to the problem.

Of course you can argue that a Public health system can never actually treat all patients and that if you want good treatment you need to adopt a system like Singapore but try and tell that to NZers who are overtaxed and getting very little back for it.
