Some of you may remember my post 5 months ago http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=49&topicid=115518 about my troubles getting internet provided through Orcon on a new RBI cabinet.
Shortly after this I started a PM conversation with Fraser(coffeebaron). During this time Fraser has been dealing with our ISP (now WxC) to get our internet up and running.
About a month after we had taken this on we managed to get Chorus to connect our line to the cabinet. Fraser came out and made some changes to our wiring, isolated the house wiring from the network as we have planned to move over to VoIP and did not want the house wiring to be an issue. All good - everything worked. Line stats where not great but the internet was usable at about 1Mbit down and 100Kbit up, line attenuation was about 70db(for those who don't know, this is considered high. Really High). As I say, not the best but it worked. It was obvious that there was still loading coils on the line.
Fraser requested that Chorus remove the coils on the line through WxC. We waited about a month for Chorus to remove the said coils. After a bit of back and forth we managed to get a Chorus tech out to take a look at the line as the Internet had dropped out. So we took the time to ask the tech to move us to another pair without loading coils, and success. It worked.
So now our line stats are at 5Mbit down and just under 1Mbit up. With about 25db of line attenuation.
Thanks Fraser for taking the time to get this sorted out and keeping with it. I could not be happier with the outcome.
