Did anybody else just get an email from Hoyts Rewards containing the following:

Important information regarding your Hoyts Rewards membership

Please be advised due to the Hoyts Octagon lease expiring, the cinema will close from Wednesday 21st August 2013.

As a consequence of the closure Hoyts will not be able to provide the benefits that come with the Hoyts Rewards program from 21st August. As a valued member, we thank you for your loyalty and would like to offer you a free 2D General Admission ticket which can be redeemed anytime between now and the closure date.

To redeem your free 2D General Admission ticket, visit Hoyts Octagon and present yourself as a Hoyts Reward member.

Thank you for being a part of our program.

Kind regards
The Hoyts Rewards Team

This is terrible news, sure we've still got Rialto but I'm not a huge fan of Rialto as depending on which cinema I'm in I can sometimes hear a droning. Not sure what causes this but disturbs the experience.

Saw a thread on twitter talking about it - looks like it is true - https://twitter.com/five15design/status/358134546547486720

Is odd to hear as they seem to be doing quite well

It'll probably turn into another restaurant/bar because we don't have enough of those in the Octagon. ;)

Reading is going to install 100% digital projectors, which is pretty exciting

Yeah read that this morning too. I guess maybe not such a bad thing then, though I do have fond memories of Hoyts growing up.

So we loose our main cinema for 3-4 months while Reading rebuild. Rialto sadly is not big enough to pick up the slack.

Not that it concerns me, haven't been to the cinema since the Avengers was released.

Looking at that article, one would assume it has been timed with the annual population exodus towards the end of the year i.e. students go home / elsewhere.
