freitasm: I never bought a USB flash drive. And I have lots. I saw a Sony USB 3 flash drive other day and I was given it to test.
In reality, USB 3 and USB 2 flash drives are pretty much the same. Really slow in both cases. Very different of getting a SSD in a USB 3 case - now that's fast.

freitasm: Right. So either the Sony USB 3 is not, or the HP laptop is not. But the laptop works fine with USB 3 HDD and SSD so I blame Sony then.

Regs: disagree completely. we have USB2 and USB3 flash drives here and the difference is huge. the USB2 ones max out around 20-25MB/sec whereas the USB3 ones are 100-120MB/s. the 100MB/s difference is enormous, especially when shifting 50GB database files around

if you stick a USB3 flash drive in a USB2 slot, it will act like USB2
