And the registrant is the captain of the Indian cricket team (I don't have any idea how common that name is by the way).

It's a scam. Do not use it or Like it. If it's like other scams it will load malware in your PC as part of the fake Like process.

Response from Bunnings:

Thank you for your email however I would like to let you know that the Bunnings brand is being misrepresented via this competition on Facebook offering $450 Bunnings gift cards.

Bunnings are in no way connected with this activity. We are currently working with Facebook to have the site removed.

Bunnings is not on any Social Media sites such as Facebook or Twitter and do not use Social Media for any offers, promotions or data collection of any sort.

As mentioned, Bunnings is taking this very seriously and have formally reported the page to Facebook and the police.

Do people really fall for this? If I published a Word 97 template at, say, "goteecup.org" with a Telecom logo would people think it was a genuine Telecom site? It has kind of a few of the same letters in it's name.

Oops, better go, apparently my great long lost uncle Prince Awabi has died and left me millions...

Time to start filtering email from these friends of yours, too.

I've been receiving heaps of really legitimate looking notifications from Facebook, lately. I know they are dodgy becasue they refer to pages and groups I have never heard of but they do have legitimate friend names and page links, so it seems they are from within Facebook. The alarm bells went off because I have opted out of all communication from Facebook, all notifications, and I only receive these dodgy notifications on an old Gmail address I used to use with Facebook, some time ago.

Yep, like the old Nigerian dead oil magnate uncle scam, it still goes around, because people still buy into it.

Yep, there is one person in my feed who is always reposting things like this (and last week I saw the Bunnings one pop up, and they had even commented on it saying 'Thanks Bunnings!'

I believe they don't actually write that.  It is posted automatically into their newsfeed (and hence your newsfeed) when they click 'like' or whatever.  They always say the exact same thing "thanks [insert name of scam]"

If I get any private message on Twitter saying "Someone has been posting this about you LOL" or "How could you do that LOL" I immediately unfollow the person for being stupid.

Interesting that bunnings say that they are not on any social media. Must be one of the few retailers who aren't.
