Hi all,

Looking to do a family roadtrip in the north island over the Christmas / New Year holidays.  Stopping in nice family orientated locations, so far we have Naipier / Hastings to go to Splash Planet, Rotorua or Taupo and maybe Tauranga for something diffrent, and Auckland & Waiheke for famiy.  Anyone out there got some cheap accomodation suggestions for these places, or suggestions on other places that are good to stop between Wellington and Auckland with fairly cheap accomodation?

Note this is for a family of 5 (2yr, 6yr, 8 yr + 2 Adults)

I book most of my NZ accommodation at travelbug.co.nz while traveling around north and south islands

Lots of options for different incomes.

Camping? Good time of year for it and pretty cheap. Just depends if the family is keen on the idea.
