Anyone know what's up with the Farmers store in Cuba Mall?

It's been closed since August 16th, still has power on, Security lights are on, all stock still in the store, and has security fencing around it.

This is on their website:

At this stage, Farmers Cuba Street remains closed for further assessment. We will continue to update this page and will provide an update on the Cuba Street store as soon as we can. Our apologies for any inconvenience.

Has this building had serious damage caused by the earthquake, enough to stop them even removing the stock? It was open on Saturday and Sunday 17-18 August, but closed on Monday 19 August.

I think there was something about it in the dompost. But think it is EQ related.

It's a former Serepisos building so read into that what you will.

This was in the dom today http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/news/9187738/Farmers-store-still-closed-after-quakes

There have been numerous stories in the media about it in recent weeks.

In a nutshell the building is an earthquake risk and suffered damage during the quake.

There are still a lot of offices and buildings closed around Wellington, TAB in Courtenay Place is another prominent one.

I wonder if it is a CTV style building, and therefore extra care is being taken?

I heard they were trying to get out of their lease cause it was expensive and the earthquake damage was getting used as the reason

The could very well be right - hate to think what leases around there would be costing!!!

They may have got their own engineers in who are playing hardball over damage with the landlord.

It's a 100yr old heritage listed building. Predates CTV by a couple of years..
