Tinshed: I hadn't heard of Realme until I read this post. So have signed up and are in the process of getting verified. Getting a photo at the Post Shop was straight forward and am just waiting for the letter to my home address so I can confirm my physical address. The overall process seemed straight forward and while not exactly cumbersome, it does need attention to the next steps. No idea when I will get to use it - other than getting my passport reissued in about a year's time - but, hey, I like to be an early adopter of such things (assuming that this hasn't been around for years and I have missed it completely.)

gnfb:I love technology and always ready to give this or that a go but for the life of me I cannot see when I would need this maybe I'm missing something. In a strange twist of fate I recently had to renew both of my passports (dual citizen) Neither of them did I need to prove who i was other than the signature matching the passport both needed to be sent in. How would Realme have played a part in this? SIDEBAR The new photo service at the post office is excellent and only $20 bargain. I hope they will incorporate the system of storing a copy online for you so you can always get extras as needed.

Want to join a new bank? Buy/sell shares online via a broker? Manage your student loan/ird/govt logins? Now(as it's slowly being implemented) rather than sending in verification and mucking about with a huge paper trail you can just be directed to login to your realme account to give them access to said information (proof of address/identity etc) and it's done.

freitasm: Why would a NZ government service be provided on a domain that's not .govt.nz?
That would defeat any purpose of authentication - straight out of the bat it people shouldn't trust it. Having a govt.nz domain is the only way to know it's an actual government service.

gnfb: Was just skimming through this realme online thingy. I'm not really sure the point? Or Are the banks going to bring in another level of security for online transactions?
