After seeing Mauricio's post on what appears to be the unfair dismissal of Jackie Lang by a Subway outlet in Dunedin, I thought it time to feel the pulse of our viewers.

I strongly disagree that we should be boycotting Subway. Subway is a franchise. Boycott the stores owned by this guy but boycotting the whole chain won't necessarily acchieve anything. Having said that however Subway's PR response to the whole incident is terrible, they should have been in damage control yesterday not refusing to even make a statements like several media organisations reported.

It's good business practice to allow things 'on the house' in bad times. Like if say a kid buys an ice cream but trips & falls flat on his face & loses it to the gutter. A shop owners not gonna charge another $1.50 or so for another ice cream is he? He just got his $1.50 back in laughs anyway :P

Donating things in times of emergency is another good thing that businesses do. Like local bakeries & stuff providing food when theres a flood & everyone's house burns down.
It doesnt bad to an accountant, but the business gets a good rep and thats half your business. People remember good things like that about a business, they don't remember the price of the drink.

You've got to be really unlucky for your house to burn down in a flood. Laughing

Anyway, my fiancée is an auditor (the worst kind of accountant) and she thinks this guy is nuts too. Doesn't make any sense to create a massive amount of bad PR over a free drink.

No point punishing the other franchises though.

I was walking past the George St, Dunedin franchise the other day and noticed in prominent lettering across the window "Under New Management"... Coincidence??? It would have been around a day or two after the police dropped the charges in the Dunedin District Court... Subway George St seems to be a bit of a joke now amongst my peers!
