So that was strang...story time
My kettle is on its last legs so I need to replace it . Now I boil water for 1 cip of tea or coffee 95% (I guess) of the time when i make a beverage. That takes place 4 to 8 times a day. I know "hi my names graham and I 'm a addict".
Anyway I thought before i look around the local haunts I would see if amazon had any wizz bang 1 cup kettles seem to make sense.
Result
Hot water Dispensers

Excellent great idea save 80% of fuel costs an as New zealand has the highest power prices in the none world we all want to save!

So I looked locally and?.... Nada! Nix Nothing well i couldnt find any

Now why is that ?

I did order one from Amazon all up about $95

but why dont they sell them here

That's bloody brilliant actually.  Might look at getting one myself.  Maybe I should import them :P

The 3kw element could be a problem. The UK plug is rated up to 13 amps. A standard NZ plug is 10 amp or enough for the 2400W element usually found in our jugs.

Having a quick look on Tefal's web page, lots of places should stock them, but then looking at the retailers web pages could not find it, so don't know, would like one my self, the $99 deal from Amazon looks ok anyway.

Bought something similiar to this about 4.5 years ago from Noel Leemings Riccarton for around $110. Water went into holder, push button, water drawn in, instantly heated and out the spout. Worked great and still works. Was purchased for grandparent in rest home where they frowned on individual jugs in rooms. Can't remember brand or model, father has it now and uses it regularly.

Water costs the same to boil whatever you use to do it. You could just buy a regular jug with a low minimum water requirement. The 3KW element will blow fuses, plus you'll need to have a new plug put on it, an adapter may not be a good idea with something that draws that much current.

Suggest you return it and buy something locally.

My parents have had one for years, was bought from one of the regular local appliance stores, handy wee device if you can't justify, or can't be bothered waiting for the regular jug.

There was a discussion on GZ about these a few months ago IIRC, may be able to gleam something useful from that.

Most of them seem to have been withdrawn from sale in NZ for some reason, the only one I can see is a Bosch unit which is far from cheap but has a built-in filter. (It's also a parallel import job so doesn't really qualify as "local")

Alternatively, you could get one of the ~$99 coffee-pod machines that are on the market and just use it without the pods to get hot water.

If it's a 3kW appliance, you'll need to get a sparky to install a 15 amp outlet, and the matching plug on the appliance.

Probably costs less to put it in the microwave. 1min on high should be pretty close.

Heating water by microwave would not be any more efficient than by direct contact with a resistive element.

No t being a sparky what happens if i just change the plug and use it ? It runs through one of those jump out blocks. Even at present if i have the kettle and the mic going same time it jumps out and i have to reset.

I did look on Noel lemmings and HN before i bought and as for the tefal it had several bad write ups
Cant cancel already dispatched damm amazons efficiency:)

Thanks for all the comment though even if they do make me feel dumb LOL

+1, get a small kettle/jug and one boil one cup at a time

The cost saving they are quoting is based on this thing only boiling one cup at a time vs a full or semi full kettle,

I like my cuinsart programmable kettle where I can specify the temp, and then click the keep warm button.
