here's a weird one for you

Got a good deal on a new DELL Venue 8 Pro little 8" Windows Baytrail tablet on dell.com recently, and got it shipped to Youshop

Tracked it, saw that it arrived at Youshop and waited for the Youshop email saying it had arrived etc

When it didn't, I went back to the Dell website and was gobsmacked to see that the billing address was my correct address and ID at Youshop, but the shipping address was to the same Youshop address but a different name and Youshop NZ ID

I never entered the wrong address, presumably something went wrong with the Dell ordering system/database as unlikely as that sounds

Have contacted Dell several times and no reply yet, I'm guessing they will ask for the package to be sent back, which wouldn't be a problem except...

Contacted Youshop and they said there is nothing they can do since it they didn't make the mistake

Asked them again if they can return the package, and they said too late the guy (won't name him here) in NZ had already paid for the shipping and it was on its way

So congrats to him, he has a new free DELL 8" Windows 8.1 tablets

Next step I guess is to refuse the VISA credit card charges and see how far that gets me.

The deal is over now so I guess no cheap tablet for me

Anyone have any thoughts or comments :)

This does seem like a bit of a flaw in the Youshop forwarding system

I guess you can still see the guy's name in the Dell website? Contact that other person?

Just charge back.

Bet it won't take long for them to contact you then.

Seems more like a Dell issue to me, tbh. Based on what you've said, it arrived at YouShop and was allocated to the name/ID that it was addressed to.

As above, argue/reverse the Visa charge, and take it from there. Sucky situation, would be interested in how Dell's ordering system would get that wrong.

It wouldn't surprise me if Dell's ordering system is crap and as soon as someone used the same address the application changed the name in the database - something like one address can't be used by many customers...

Youshop problem or not (dell system issue would be my guess too) it seems crazy that youshop won't do anything about it, especially if it hasn't arrived with this other person yet. Seems they could easily refund him and deliver to you if you provide proof of purchase. This sounds like the sort of thing they should really be bending over backwards to avoid, because it's their service that it will reflect badly on.

And this person sounds like a right royal w****r if he plans to keep it when he must know it's a mistake...

YouShop doesn't really know if the parcel belongs to Nathan or not. All they know is something arrived to the warehouse with a valid name/code combination. For all intents it "belongs" to this other person and youShop won't do anything.

Chargeback Dell and they will jump in action...

yeah definitely a Dell mistake (I loaded my shipping address into my account on DELL.com and that's the only address I ever used)

Its pretty strange story, I find it hard to believe their system could make a mistake, but Mauricio's comment about 2 people using the same shipping address in their database does seem pretty likely

But I am kind of surprised that Youshop / NZ Post hasn't been more helpful here

I had a message from youshop a while back saying a package had a arrived for me (it was a phone), I contacted them and said it wasn't mine, they weren't overly interesting in that fact

yep fair call Mauricio, kind of hard for Youshop to know who really owns the package, like you say they received it at a valid name / NZ ID combo

I understand how you feel. I'd be pretty upset as well... With Dell, YouShop but in special with this other person. S/he jumped at the opportunity like those couple of recent cases of people who found some money in their bank account and start using it...

By all means chargeback and get dell on the case.

I'm just wondering how much dell jumping into action will help at this point, when the package is in youshop hands going to the wrong person? Just seems to me youshop are better placed to actually do something about it now (provided nathan can provide proof of purchase - i assume he got a purchase confirmation from dell to be able to track it initially?)

If they know what's in the box they know they will get a laptop for shipping cost only. Temptation, greed...
