I am left bewildered about that fake interpreter at the Mandella Memorial Service.. Apparently everything he says i.e what school he went to, that he had Schizophrenia during the service, don't seem to "link up".

Not sure what to believe, but this is getting to be quite a mystery! Maybe someone else here has a better theory?

It's a common mode of corruption (worldwide) to provide bogus or overpriced services to government assisted by your friends in government departments who are in charge of purchasing those services. It's a rort. Nothing more to it. The difference with this one is the public performance context.

It's very sad for South Africa they actually thought they could actually get away with this one. If the guy is still living in a shack then he's probably not the main beneficiary of it either.

I read the South African Deaf Association (or whatever they are) complained about the same "interpreter" after he was the official sign language person for an event that featured the SA President in 2012. So he is legitimate in that he is an official employee and stuff - but he obviously doesn't know sign language. It says something that they have kept him on despite being called out on the fact he doesn't know what he's doing. It must be cronyism or nepotism, or something along those lines. Also the latest stuff that he was charged with murder and rape and stuff is interesting. The case was never resolved as the contents of the Court file went missing.

As a South African I am not at all surprised about this.

The fake interpreter was not the only one faking it. The whole SA government is faking it. The whole Rainbow nation thing is a fake.
In a way I am glad this has happened because it shows to the world the competence of the South African goverment. This so called interpreter is qualified. Just like the president is "qualified"

Have a look into President Jacob Zumas past and you will see what I mean. He is not at all qualified for the job. Totally incompetent, and an utter embarrassment really. Lets not even talk about the fact that he has 6 wives. Yet Bigamy is not legal in South Africa.

The fact that President Zuma was booed at the Memorial Service is proof enough that something is seriously wrong in goverment. Then when they show the former president FW De Klerk the crowd cheers. He was the last president under apartheid.

So no I am not left bewildered about this fake interpreter at the Memorial Service. I am more bewildered that the rest of the world looks at South Africa as some sort of peaceful country where everybody just lives in harmony. What a shame though that this interpreter is part of all the Memorial recordings etc... Even Obama's speech which was excellent. Nobody wants to remember this guy, but he is in most of the photos. What an insult to the deft community world wide. But.. slowely the rest of the world is waking up... Maybe SA is not such a rainbow nation after all.

End of rant.... Maybe its time I started to support the All Blacks :-))))

My guess he's probably the son or nephew of someone in a position of influence, it's how the world works over there, look after yourself, your family and your extended family.

Yep, it's just another example of the nonsense that goes on in Africa. Like said, he is probably some nephew, uncle or friend of someone in power. Just another example that makes me glad I am out of Africa. Things like the President spending $18 million on a compound for himself but seeing no problem when questioned about it in relation to the country getting $17 million in aid. Government in Africa is just a corrupt joke. Going to be interesting to see what happens now that Mandela is gone.

He let himself down, he let his nation down and he disrespected A great man. His actions does not equal an entire country.

I can't say that I've come across many (or even any I can recall) people who look at South Africa that way.  On the other hand, I have come across an attitude (and not from ex-pat South Africans in particular) of almost self-satisfied glee that it hasn't become a peaceful country where everybody lives in harmony.

You sir are 100% correct

Fake interpreter employed by ANC man

But here is the shocking part:

He and several others faced murder, attempted murder, and kidnapping charges. Charges against him were later dropped because he was found to be mentally unfit to stand trial. Deputy Minister of Women, Children and the Disabled Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu told the Sunday Times her department was looking into the matter as Jantjie had been accredited and was granted access to the VIP stage. "There's no way you can just rock up and stand next to a president. Somebody, somewhere is lying," she told the paper.

"I am a patient of Sterkfontein. I was discharged and started working after being medicated and monitored by doctors," Jantjie told the Sunday Times. He was referring to the Sterkfontein Psychiatric Hospital in Krugersdorp.

He told the newspaper he was part of a group who burnt to death two people in 2003.

Deaf interpreters reference company does not exist

The fake interpreters name was revealed yesterday and it has also been discovered that he gave a fake reference according to Deaf SA. National South Africa language interpreter at Deaf SA, Delphin Hlungwane says the interpreter’s work reference is not creditable anywhere. “Thamsanqa said he was hired by a company called ‘Interpreters SA’ and that company does not exist, we even googled and found nothing.”

Amazing none the less that this guy managed to stand right next to Obama.

This video from last year shows the same man next to South Africas current President Jacob Zuma when he sings about killing the Boer (White Afrikaans South Africans)

It is astonishing that the Secret Service ever allowed that guy within a mile of POTUS.

I worked with them when Bush visited the UK once and their procedures would have kept whackos like this well out of the way on stage. It surprises me a little that they missed this guy. The SA security services must be a lot worse than they used to be, too.
