Hi There!

I am posting here on behalf of someone else who needs some assistance. Last night around 8pm, a large white van (similar to a ford transit) with what I believe was the words palms direct or ferns direct and a 0800 number with possibly 577 or 557 left the scene of an accident which left 4 cars quite badly damaged.

They pulled over right outside the kings arms tavern in newton, before deciding to scarper.

The van hit at least one of the cars, but one of the cars it had contact with, drove in to a parked car which hit another parked car etc, and another. The guy who hit the parked cars is uninsured and obviously the insurance company wants as many details as possible.

Does anyone know of a company with a large white van that delivers plants, ferns, palms etc who might be able to point me in the right direction? The writing would have been green or blue (green I am almost sure).

Any assistance appreciated.

Can the police who have access to traffic cams etc investigate this?

Someone like this is probably breaking other laws too and maybe police need to speak to them anyway.

Well anything is possible, but they seem pretty genuine.

Quite right. This needs to be reported to police asap so any camera footage in the area can be obtained. Not exactly sure what street cameras there are in Newtown, but if WCC have a camera or two down there there's a few weeks leeway. If there are cameras and they belong to transit, it's around 3 days before the footage is overwritten.

Very long shot here.  Google maps throws up this:

image
Ok - the 0800 number is 547 ..., not 577 or 557. There's probably no need for an Auckland based plant hire business to use an 0800 number most of the firms listed just have a local number.
The website indicates that they're some directory service in the gardening/landscaping business.
There's no real street address - and there was another hit for the same company name (but different location etc) on Google maps.
If you arrange a lynching - and find out too late that you got the wrong guy - don't blame me.

Newton not Newtown.

Good luck with this. Did they get any recollection of the typeface or colors of the sign writing at all?

Not specifically I don't think.

It wasn't particularly fancy, readable from a distance and all that.

Another long shot: http://www.piercelandscaping.co.nz/; also operating http://www.itsgrass.co.nz which is 0800 557 700.

Standard disclaimer about mistaken lynchings applies.

Don't worry, no chance of vigilante justice here...

Thanks for taking the time :)

Uninsured? He does not get my sympathy vote. Even though the van hit him first, from what you have described he will still be liable for the cars he drove into.

That said, this should be a police investigation into the details of the van. Pass the police investigation details onto the Insurance companies..

Presumably the Police are dealing with this?

We found the person who left the scene of the accident. He won't be responsible as the guy that ran into the cars didn't stop for the stop sign and is uninsured. He is in a world of trouble himself. The guy will turn himself into the police tonight apparently so all ends well. Thanks for those who offered assistance.
