I am looking to ship an item weighing 7kg and 140x70x30cm in dimensions from the UK to NZ. DHL quoted me $2000 and UPS quoted $900, which means air freight is a goner. So that leaves me getting quotes for sea freight. The item is a Parcel Shelf for a 1996 Toyota Celica (failed to find one in NZ) so it's not going to have customs issues nor is timeliness vital.

If anyone has experience with the type of service I am looking for advice would be appreciated.

PS: If anyone has a parcel shelf in NZ then I'd buy it for $200 plus PnP because that's a whole less hassle

PPS: Alternatively if someone knows a company that'll make them custom I'm also interested in that ^~

Go on some UK forums and ask if anyone is moving to NZ any time soon, and if they are, can they bring it with them in exchange for some $$ ? :)

I was just going by Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Celica#Sixth_generation_.2F_T200_Series_.281993.E2.80.931999.29 for the years. 1993-1999 that model range was made. Even if it's not the exact same range as yours, I'd expect anything from the same year range should fit.

With the number of Jap imports, I'd be surprised if there wasn't one in the country somewhere - might just need to get creative with your search!

If they don't pan out, call Conroys. Most shipping agents in NZ are just that - agents. Most of the others are brokers. So, you end up paying through the nose for middlemen. Conroy's are freight forwarders and do that directly. If time is not an issue, getting it here as part of a shared shipment shouldn't cost too much. Alternatively, call a couple of sea cargo companies and ask for the contact details of their NZ agents. Maersk ships run UK to NZ routes, as do all the European cargo ships. Getting items onto those ships is pretty straight-forward as long as you can arrange pick-up or delivery to the port from the UK end.

Looks like you are sorted now but I am surprised that you didn't try the post.

If you could repack the item to 140cm x 70cm x 10cm it would be within the limits for parcel size. Since a parcel shelf is flat you should be able to manage that.

Cheers guys.

I've checked those auctions and a few more. Will contact shipping agents directly, the quote from a company came back as 125 pounds shipping to NZ, and $254 within NZ (custom fees and delivery). Bit outrageous there

You can send surface mail from UK by Royal mail, the website is a little unclear on the maximum size and weight though.http://www.royalmail.com/parcel-despatch-low/international-delivery/surface-mail
