I have gone with 'Julius Marlow' shoes for quite a while for work because I like the style and comfort but find they don't last that long, the soles seem to wear out quickly. I wear them for work 4 days a week and the odd special occasion.

They are up for renewal again now so looking to see what others are out there.

What business shoes do you wear and are they long lasting?

(sorry for the non-tech question)

I have two pairs of Churches' Oxfords in black and 4 pairs of brown brogues (a pair of Trickers, 2 pairs of Grensons and a pair of Loakes) and one pair of brown Veldtschoen made by Crockett & Jones. Also one pair of Alfred Seargeant brown suede brogues.

All well over 15 years old now and all going strong.

Also 2 pairs of RM Williams Dress Boots.

The downside is that I have to return them to the UK for re-welting and resoling as nowhere in NZ has that expertise now.

Being self employed and in a non-office job I mostly wear trainers now though.

Ecco Helsinki bicycle toe. My oldest are a couple of years old and going strong. I got the first pair from their store in Wellington for around $280, second pair from Amazon via youshop for around NZ$140 ish.

The size varies a bit shoe to shoe. Suggest buying in Wellington first, to determine your size. I don't think it's fair to try on locally and buy overseas, not for the first pair at least.

I bought a pair of Rieker antistress shoes from the Kirks sale last year... Usually Riekers look fairly 'old man' :-) but these were ok.... best thing though was ubersoft leather and sole and oooooh so comfortable! feels like wearing slipper at work!  seem to be lasting well ...

Seconding Ecco has a brand. The most comfortable shoes I have ever owned. Barkers are good too, and if you get them rubber-soled, should last for ever but are quite pricey.

Those Julius Marlow shoes are styley but they don't last for work! Get yourself another pair but keep them for weekend occasions.

I have had a pair of hush puppies for a good two years now and can see them lasting a good while yet, only cost about $130 as well. Plus they are really comfortable.

I went off hush puppies. They have a soft sole, but I found them less comfortable than the harder wearing eccos. I still have them in the back of my cupboard somewhere, in decent condition but I just don't like them as much. Totally personal taste though of course.

All my shoes are Ecco's. Got nice dress shoes and every day shoes, as well as sandals from Ecco. They are comfy and last for a long time.

Geez, what a bunch of rich gits!! ;-)

I just buy el cheapo shoes on sale at The Warehouse for $25 or less and they usually last a few years ... one pair a few years ago I bought for only $10. :-)

The problem I've found with all formal shoes, including pricier ones I used to buy, is that crack along the tops and/or the sole due to being constanly bent while driving (mostly the clutch foot since it get more use during suburb / city driving). I could do what many women do and have a second pair of shoes just for driving, but I can't be bothered having to keep changing them.

With veins coursing with Scottish blood I have one pair of florsheims which get worn 5 days a week in a tough environment. I'll get five years or more from them and then stop counting
