"The deputy board chairman at Motat has resigned and 20 volunteers have walked out as troubles grow deeper at the country's largest transport museum"

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11216039

I absolutely love Motat and it is sad to see they have troubles. Some areas have become a bit run down over the last few years and I assumed that was just having trouble getting volunteers to maintain but it turns out there is more to it.

My favorite parts are the room with all the old household appliances like my grandparents had, and the old police and traffic cars. Yeah, it's kind of a nostalgia thing ; ). The massive steam engines are awesome as well.

What are your favorite exhibits and activities at Motat?

Btw, Pacifica is on next door this weekend.

We're not "regular" visitors, but do go if we're in the area (every 2 or 3 years I guess). Hopefully they can sort it out.

Father drives the trams part time there.

It's a real shame, it has the potential to be a really great museum and in recent years I felt like it's come a very long way already.  We've been twice this year already and it's been really enjoyable.

I hope some fresh blood injects new direction and life into the place.

I loved the old telephone exchange when I was there recently.  My kids loved the steam train they could climb all over.

The old telephony gear reminds me I'm getting on a bit. I used to install/repair quite a few of the items on display!

I haven't been to MOTAT for years unfortunately.  Do they they still have the old teletypewriter machines there? ( I used to be a telegraph & data tech).

The technology museum in Gisborne http://www.ecmot.org.nz/ is worth a visit to if you're ever over that way.

Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.
