Hello!
Yes this is my first post :)  Looking forward to getting to know the community well.

So, I ordered a item from the USA, and I recently got the tracking number.  Since many of you guys in the community have probably ordered things as well from the USA, I was hoping one of you could answer my question.

My tracking number says "Accepted at Mail Centre"

Does this mean that the item has arrived in NZ?  I called NZ post but they don't work Sat & Sun.

Cheers!

no it could mean it is on its way. it might not update any more until a week or two after you receive it.

what priority was the shipping?

if you put the tracking number into nzpost.co.nz and it appears it could mean it is in NZ. or not.

Is this a NZ Post tracking number? Interesting because if an item is posted from overseas it won't get a NZ Post number assigned until it lands here, and even so you would still use the original number (USPS for example). Unless you're talking about YouShop items?

i have had all sorts of other countries' tracking number tracking fine in nzpost.co.nz - i am not sure if they get added to our system upon receipt in NZ or whether it can be tracked before that.

chances are if it doesn't show up in nzpost it hasn't reached, and if it does you are about to receive it

let me qualify: USPS (US postal service) doesn't update standard priority after acceptance. priority service will update until processed (which means assigned to leave the country) and then stops there.

well that's my experience and what the aussies (whirlpool) say anyway

As I replied to your tweet, "Accepted at Mail Centre" on a tracking number that ends with "NZ" (and generally all other tracking EMS-service tracking numbers) always seems to mean that it's at one of the major Mail Centres (typically Auckland).

As has happened with me, it's possible for a package to be stuck at this state for several days/weeks(!) for unknown reasons, in my case after querying the status with NZ Post I was told that the address was missing/unreadable (even though I've proved that it wasn't).  NZ Post never responded to my follow ups on why they decided that.  Personally, if it's stuck on that status for 3 working days then query them (and tell them that they need to start explicitly noting these 'exceptions' (as they are called in the industry)).
