As I upgraded my phone to a galaxy note a couple of weeks ago, it occurred to me that, while I can have it in my pocket at a push - what would be really handy is a pocket on the thigh part of my trousers where it could live and be safe.

Ideally I would like to be able to buy some normal looking mens blue denim jeans and some ordinary black work trousers that had such a pocket.

I had a good look around yesterday - and apart from some terrible looking 'travel' pants and some fake camouflage pants - there is really nothing.

Have the many collective eyes of geekzone seen some nice looking jeans/work trousers with such a feature - and if so where might they be found.

I am almost sensing a gap in the market for some enterprising clothing manufacturers - maybe Samsung needs to get into the clothing market!

IMO I think as soon as you add such a pocket to "nice work pants" they are no longer nice work pants.

Try the Scott E-Vest people, they do cargo pants. Their stuff is specifically designed for stashing IT gear.
I had one of their vests and it was great, wore it til it died. Can be pricey getting them to NZ though.

Well yes - but they could still look nicer than baggy army style cargo pants.
If they exist....

Get the inside pocket of a suit jacket altered. Less banging around if it's in a jacket.

My Galaxy Note 2 lives ordinarily in the left front pocket of a pair of RM Williams Linesman's Jeans.

Interesting - You can sit down/drive ok with that in the pocket?
Must be decently deep pockets on them - Some jeans are annoyingly shallow.

I guess this is the downside of the move to ever increasing screen sizes on "phones" when does it just become impractical to carry around. Its one of the reasons I have an iPhone as it sits well in a jeans pocket and its for this reason that I'm a little concerned that the next version may move to a 6" screen. I realise others like big screens but for me personally a phone is a phone and 4-5" is fine, if I want bigger I get a tablet and carry it in a bag or in my hand.

Sorry if slightly of topic.

Like many people I find the tablet aspect of more use than the phone part. The internet is definitely easier to use on a larger screen. The note II does actually fit in my work pants side pocket and doesnt look obvious. But it could slip out. Just figured there may have been some clothes designers who were 'on to it'. Maybe not....

I got some pants from Kathmandu, with side pockets at xmas time and found them good.
They have an Easter special on at the moment and some clearance items.
I got two more pairs in the clearance sale. Only blue

It might depend what size pants you wear/how baggy you like them, I wear them to 'fit' i.e. neither baggy nor tight and no problem fitting the note 2 in the front pocket when seated in the RM's.

I got some mountain design active pants a while back and they are hopeless, you have to use the cargo side pocket to carry your phablet as the side pockets are poorly shaped and the phone falls out every time you sit in the car. And the cargo pocket is so wide and spacious that the phone sits horizontally across the bottom of it and fouls everything you walk past.
I have an old pair of macpac zipoffs that have the perfect side pocket with an internal sub pocket that the phone stands vertically in, but unfortunately they are faded beyond redemption and the pocket zip is stuffed.

Go look at the Scottevest clothing website. Trousers, jackets, shorts, travel vests and all sorts - all full of tons of pockets, all with the ability to run wired networks for headphones, battery packs and so on from pocket to pocket. I use one of their vests as a second carry on (one of the pockets even swallows my Macbook Air!) and have a couple of pairs of their cargo pants that will easily swallow a Galaxy Note in about 4 of the 8 or so pockets.

my 6" Lumia 1520 fits in my jeans pockets fine too.  Personally I take It out when I'm driving and sitting down though, but I do that with any phone.  I was reading that clothing manufacturers are increasing the size of pants pockets going forward because of the growth in Phablets

I put my Note 3 in most of my front trouser pockets and dont have any trouble with them falling out.
It has the conductive backing and front cover which probably increases the size and weight too.
Probably wouldnt fit my Draggins that I wear on the Can Am Spyder on the longer trips
