Time to get my family a NZ travel insurance.

So, whats are the Geekzoners experience with New Zealand travel insurance? I want a good price, but a company that actually steps up and is possible to get a hold of if something happens is more important.

Southern Cross are awesome!

I had to almost use them once - they were very easy to get hold of and ready to help straight away (was in USA). My situation turned out to be a false alarm but it was nice to know they were there. Highly recommended.

Just not credit card insurance --- my daughter required emegency surgery in the USA and my ASB platinum CC insurance was useless in a pressure situation.

Primarily because the insurance was difficult and slow to activate at a time when you don't need such difficulties.

To use credit card travel insurance you need to pay for the flights / part of on credit card, I am traveling with a friend that works for AIRNZ so they paid for the flights,

Business class return :)

Ah ok, I never fly overseas with Air NZ. Now if you fly with emirates, singapore air on business class they include cheap travel insurance.

Don't think they would include it for the price we paid

Actually moving from using a norwegian travel insurance (Which has been very good), to having one here in NZ since we have moved here from Norway.

I often pay my travels with my credit card, but I would not feel safe with just the travel insurance on credit card. Too many gotchas and limitations on those travel insurances.

That seems like a common way of buying insurance (at least from looking at the Southern Cross site).

I am used to buying travel insurance for a whole year and being covered, so no need to signing up every time I travel. (I am  bound to miss it that one time I really need it).

You need to contact them. The one that sell on the site is for travelling outside NZ. There is different type of travel insurance when you are living in NZ.
